LOCAL NOTES : Mixed Doubles Victory Sparks the Dukes Past San Antonio

The Dukes remained undefeated in World TeamTennis by beating the San Antonio Racquets, 26-23, in overtime Tuesday at McFarland Tennis Center in San Antonio.

The mixed doubles team of Manon Bollegraf and Trevor Kronemann beat Sven Salumaa and Cammy MacGregor, 6-1, to pace the Dukes (4-0). Bollegraf and Kronemann are unbeaten in mixed doubles this season.

The lopsided mixed doubles victory gave the Dukes a 16-11 lead with two sets remaining. The Dukes lost both--Salumaa won 6-5 in men’s singles (Kronemann replaced Rikard Bergh with the score 2-2) and MacGregor and Shaun Stafford beat Bollegraf and Katrina Adams, 6-4, in women’s doubles.

But in the first overtime game, the Dukes broke MacGregor and Newport Beach had the victory.

The Dukes return home tonight to play the defending champion Atlanta Thunders and Martina Navratilova at 7 at the John Wayne Tennis Club.

Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza shot a one-under 72 to take the lead in the girls’ division of the Rolex Tournament of Champions junior golf tournament Tuesday at the Horseshoe Bend Country Club in Roswell, Ga.

Alicia Allison of Santa Ana shot 76 and is tied for fifth.

In the boys’ division, Chris Berry of Yorba Linda shot 76 and is eight strokes behind leader Brian McCann of Canada.

Greg Folsom, a third baseman from Orange Coast, signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Azusa Pacific.

Folsom, a second-team All-Orange Empire Conference selection last season, hit .364 with three home runs and 38 runs batted in last season.

Azusa Pacific was 33-7 and finished last season ranked fifth in the NAIA.
