KID STUFF : Dinosaurs Roam Bookstore Shelves

Thanks in large part to the hit movie “Jurassic Park,” books with dinosaur themes are blazing this summer. The editors of the Horn Book Magazine, a children’s literature journal, and “The Horn Book Guide” have compiled a list of “the best of the new titles” about dinosaurs. Among them are:

* “Dinosaurs All Around: An Artist’s View of the Prehistoric World,” by Caroline Arnold. Illustrated with photographs by Richard Hewett. (Clarion. $14.95. Grades 4-6.)

* “Where to Find Dinosaurs Today,” by Daniel and Susan Cohen. (Cobblehill. $15. Grades 4-6.) A guide to museums, parks and quarries where visitors can see dinosaur skeletons and monuments.

* “The Dinosaur Question and Answer Book,” by Sylvia Funston. (Joy Street. $16.95. Grades 3-5.) The book answers frequently asked questions about dinosaurs.

* “Dinosaurs,” by Claude Delafosse and James Prunier. Illustrated by Prunier and Henri Galeron. (Cartwheel. $10.95. Grades 2-5.) Transparent overlays illustrate anatomy of dinosaurs.

* “Dinosaur Encore,” by Patricia Mullins. (HarperCollins. $15. Kindergarten-Grade 3.) Collages compare sizes and behaviors of dinosaurs to contemporary animals.

* “Macmillan Children’s Guide to Dinosaurs and Other Prehistoric Animals,” by Philip Whitfield. (Macmillan. $16.95. Grades 4-6.)
