Share

Gene Malin of Woodland Hills said he hadn’t played competitive tennis in more than two years last week as he advanced through the early rounds of the USTA National men’s 45 hardcourt tournament at the Westlake Tennis & Swim Club.

The inactivity hasn’t affected him. Malin reached today’s finals in both singles and doubles.

Fifth-seeded Malin defeated Charles Hoeveler of Ross, Calif., 7-6, 6-3, Saturday and will face ninth-seeded Cliff Price of Tulsa, Okla. in the 10:30 a.m. singles final.
