Gala Raises $77,000 to Help Southwest Museum

Southwest Museum’s Silver Mesa Gala, held June 26 at Rex, honored U.S. Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (D-Colorado). The benefit, attended by more than 200 guests, raised $77,000. Proceeds will be used for the preservation, exhibition and interpretation of American Indian art and artifacts.

Young Leadership Circle of the West Coast Friends of Bar-Ilan University in Israel raised $100,000 at a July 15 benefit at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. Proceeds will support the Cancer, AIDS and Immunology Research Institute at the university.

Goodwill Industries Guild of Long Beach and South Bay held its ninth annual “Yachts of Fun” benefit gala July 10 at the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club. Net proceeds of $43,000 will benefit the Marilyn Brock Memorial Computer/Clerical Classroom for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Since its founding in 1990, the classroom’s job training program has graduated more than 100 students with job placements throughout Southern California.

Children’s Bureau of Southern California received $200,000 raised at the May 10 President’s Invitational Golf Tournament at the Lakeside Golf Club in Burbank. Proceeds will provide services to children and families including professional treatment and prevention programs for abused and neglected children. Former President Gerald Ford participated in the tournament, which he helped found 12 years ago.

KCRW-FM raised $72,000 at its annual “Summerday” gala of fine wines and gourmet foods June 20 at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. Proceeds will be used to purchase equipment for the station’s new drama and performing arts studio. Among sponsors were American Airlines, Jeep/Eagle, a division of the Chrysler Corp. and others. KCRW at Santa Monica College is a National Public Radio station.
