WORDS AND IMAGES : A Literary Look at King Case : Bakunin, published by Simi native Jordan Jones, also focuses on the L.A. riots and race relations in special edition.

The summer issue of the highly praised literary magazine Bakunin, published by 30-year-old Simi Valley native Jordan Jones, focuses entirely on the Rodney G. King beating and trial, the L.A. riots and race relations. An eclectic mix of writers and artists have produced essays, poetry, fiction and art for this special edition subtitled “The Trouble with Los Angeles.”

Jones, whose poems and short stories have been widely published, included his essay/memoir “The Simi Valley I Know” a historic and sometimes despairing view of a community he loves.

Bakunin is available at independent bookstores or at P.O. Box 1853, Simi Valley, 93062. A subscription to the semi-annual journal costs $8.

An interesting feature in Jones’ first book of poetry, “Sand & Coal,” published by Futharc Press of Ventura, is the inclusion of a genealogy chart because so many of the poems are about his family. Jones attended Moorpark College and has a master’s degree in English from UC Davis. He also studied at the L’Universite Catholique de L’Ouest in France.

Santa Barbara-based futurist Michael Lindemann says he has never seen a UFO or encountered an alien. However, after studying certain evidence he became a believer and founded the 2020 Group Visitors Investigation Project in 1989 to conduct and publish UFO research. He wrote and published “UFOs and the Alien Presence: Six Viewpoints” in 1991. Lindemann will present a slide lecture on UFOs and the Future of Human-Alien Contact at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday in the Poinsettia Pavilion, 3451 Foothill Road, Ventura. Tickets are $7 at the door. The Reagan Library Summer Film Festival continues with a screening of the 1952 baseball epic “The Winning Team” at 2 p.m. Sunday.
