Drag Racer Is Dead After Heart Attack
Ron Filkins, a drag racer from Alta Loma, died Sunday after suffering a heart attack in his car during the Autolite Nationals at the Sears International Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. He was 50.
Filkins collapsed while driving on the return road after winning a first-round run in the Super Stock division. An on-site emergency crew attempted to revive him before he was transported by helicopter to Petaluma Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Filkins won the super-stock division at the 1993 Winternationals at the Pomona Raceway, and the 1990 Winston finals at Pomona.
