Assemblywoman Hilda L. Solis (D-El Monte) has been named to the state’s Child Support Advisory Task Force.

State Controller Gray Davis appointed the task force to monitor the new Child Support Collection Program, a pilot project that is aimed at collecting delinquent payments from chronically late or uncooperative parents. Since May, the program has recovered $131,000 for 166 families.

The program will continue at least through December in six counties, including Los Angeles.

Officials track deadbeat parents through the Franchise Tax Board and county district attorneys’ offices. Through the system, child support payments from delinquent parents are being collected within two months, instead of the average six months to two years, officials said.

The program is expected to collect more than $14 million annually.
