GLENDALE : Youth Charged With Murder in Killing of Boy, 9
Prosecutors on Monday filed charges of murder and brandishing a handgun against a 14-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting his 9-year-old friend in a Glendale apartment.
The 14-year-old, whose name was withheld because of his age, is scheduled to be arraigned today in Pasadena Juvenile Court, Deputy Dist. Atty. Laura Foland-Prever said. Glendale police arrested the Hoover High School student Thursday after neighbor Sang Lee, 9, suffered a gunshot wound to his chest and died about 45 minutes later.
Investigators believe the older boy found Sang’s father’s .38-caliber revolver in the family’s apartment, loaded it with one bullet and pointed the weapon at the fourth-grader to scare him. The 14-year-old allegedly pulled the trigger twice, with the bullet firing the second time.
Foland-Prever declined to release details of the police report.
If convicted of first-degree murder, the boy would be put on probation at a camp for juveniles, at the California Youth Authority or in a foster home. He remains in custody at Eastlake Juvenile Hall in East Los Angeles.
