A Santa Ana man arrested in the weekend shooting death of one man and the wounding of another has been identified by police as Jose Vergara Bravo.

Bravo, 19, called police Sunday and surrendered, said Sgt. Don Robertson. Bravo was immediately taken to Orange County Jail, Robertson said.

Bravo had been sought by police since a party at 1030 S. Main St. on Saturday night ended with the two shootings, Robertson said.

The incident began when Bravo and Adrian Gonzalez, 25, of Santa Ana got into an argument and went outside to settle it, Robertson said. Once outside in a parking lot, Bravo allegedly shot at Gonzalez and missed, but the bullet struck Carlos de la Cruz, 22, of Santa Ana, in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Robertson said.

Bravo then reportedly shot at Gonzalez again, this time hitting him twice, in the head and torso. Gonzalez was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana where he remains in serious condition, Robertson said.
