O’Ravez Quits as Baseball Coach at Grant

Grant High baseball Coach David O’Ravez has resigned, saying it’s time to move out of Los Angeles.

“It was a very, very difficult decision and it took a lot of time to think about it,” said O’Ravez, 27. “But we decided we’re going to get out of L.A., and we’re doing it. A lot of people are doing the same thing.”

O’Ravez said his wife, Tamara Watson, accepted a job at Shasta Union High in Redding. Also, the couple are planning a family and do not want to raise their children in the area.

Watson and O’Ravez taught classes at Grant. O’Ravez is looking for a teaching/coaching position at Shasta Union and Enterprise highs in Redding. His resignation means Grant’s baseball team will have its third coach in as many years. O’Ravez’s predecessor, Tom Lucero, moved to Virginia last year.

“The baseball down here is excellent, and, boy, I’m going to miss it,” O’Ravez said. “But you do what you have to do.”
