ARCADIA : Bear With Taste for Trash Gets New, Remote Home

Share

A 350-pound black bear, which had been raiding trash cans around the Arcadia Wilderness Park in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, was trapped this week and relocated to the mountains west of Pyramid Lake, authorities announced Thursday.

The bear had not harmed anyone, but officials in Arcadia and with the California Department of Fish and Game said the male animal was moved Wednesday as a precautionary measure in light of the recent bear attacks in the San Bernardino Mountains.

State game wardens spent six nights trying to trap the bear while Arcadia officials canceled all overnight camping and Scouting activities in the park.

The bear was captured after sightings of another bear that has been lumbering into populated areas of Monrovia, Bradbury and Duarte.
