Four women in one car suffered major injuries Monday in a collision between two vehicles at an intersection, police said.

Each driver told police that the other motorist ran the light at Tustin Ranch Road and Bryan Avenue, police Sgt. David Kreyling said.

Stephen Lee Holmes, 36, of El Toro was driving north on Tustin Ranch Road and Lina Esquivel, 47, of Santa Ana, was headed east on Bryan Avenue when the crash occurred about 8:15 a.m., police said.

Esquivel and one of her passengers were hospitalized at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. Esquivel was in guarded condition with injuries to her arms and face and Maria L. Martinez, 30, was in critical condition with major injuries to her head and right leg, hospital officials said.

Two other passengers, Leticia Sanchez, 25, and Garciela Alcala, 24, were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where both were listed in guarded condition with cuts and bruises.

Holmes was treated for cuts and bruises and released from UCI Medical Center, Kreyling said.

Police said they did not think drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision and no one has been cited.
