Share

Coach: Mike Hurlbut (third year).

1992: 10-8, 2-8 in South Coast League; finished fifth in league after starting 8-0 and reaching a No. 8 county ranking, but seven consecutive losses changed all that.

Key returners: Jennifer Kessy, Jr., 5-11, outside hitter; Skye Lewis, Jr., 5-11, middle blocker/outside hitter; Ursula Luna, Sr., 5-9, setter; Tara Pollak, Jr., 5-10, middle blocker; Jeanne Vetter, Sr., 5-11, outside hitter.

Key newcomers: Eryn Gerhard, So., 5-6, setter; Tricia Jensson, Jr., 6-0, middle blocker; Erika Tillman, So., 5-10, outside hitter.

Outlook: Dana Hills is nowhere to be found on the coaches’ Division I preseason poll, but that doesn’t bother the Dolphins. “As long as we’re up there in the end, that’s all that counts,” Hurlbut said. The outside hitting trio of Vetter, Lewis and Kessy--all returning starters--has commanded respect from area coaches. Vetter was only a second-team all-league pick last season but was on the Mission Valley team that took second at the prestigious summer tournament in Davis, and is much improved as college recruiters have come calling en masse.
