SANTA ANA — A 39-year-old man was shot and wounded during a robbery Sunday morning while walking in a neighborhood near the Civic Center.
Police said Juan Jose Merida of Santa Ana drove to the 400 block of South Pacific Avenue, got out of his car and walked around the area looking for a friend. An unidentified man approached Merida just after 6 a.m. and demanded his wallet, said Santa Ana Police Sgt. Vic Faust.
“The victim refused, and the suspect pulled out a 9-mm handgun and fired twice, striking the victim once,” Faust said.
Merida was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was in stable condition, police said.
No one has been arrested in the shooting.
