Cat With an Arrow Stuck in Its Head Expected to Recover

PITTSFIELD, Me. — A cat that wandered for more than a day with an arrow stuck through its head was recovering in an animal hospital.
“I don’t know how he survived,” veterinarian Jason L. Orr, who removed the aluminum arrow and treated infections, said Thursday. “The arrow took out his entire nose, bounced off his brain cage and exited behind his left shoulder.”
Police believe the 5-month-old male cat--which has been nicknamed “Arrow Flynn”--was shot deliberately at close range. Some residents reported seeing two boys with a bow and arrow chasing the cat. The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
The cat needs further surgery, but its chances for recovery are good if it survives the next few days, Orr said.
