Michigan Runs Past Houston, 42-21
Tyrone Wheatley rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns as No. 8 Michigan defeated Houston, 42-21, in a nonconference game on Saturday.
Wheatley scored on runs of 25, five and nine yards for Michigan (2-1), which took a 28-0 second-quarter lead.
The Wolverines lost two of six fumbles.
“We have a lot of potential, but it hasn’t been tapped yet,” said Wheatley, who has rushed for over 100 yards in all three games. “I could have made some guys miss at times. Overall, I would grade it as decent.”
Lamar Smith carried 20 times for 119 yards and scored all three touchdowns for Houston (0-3), which pulled to within 35-21 before Michigan responded with an 87-yard, eight-play drive in the fourth quarter for the final score.
