CSUN Gets Assistant From Slippery Rock

Cal State Northridge has hired Cheryl Kennedy, formerly the women’s basketball coach at Slippery Rock University, as its top women’s assistant under Coach Kim Chandler.

Kennedy had a 59-72 record in five seasons at Slippery Rock but was 36-18 the past two seasons.

Cal State Northridge was 6-21 last season.

Ross Linhart will miss Northridge’s men’s soccer match against Oregon State on Sunday so that his hamstring injury will be healed when the Matadors open Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play next week against third-ranked Cal State Fullerton.

Linhart, a defender, played 15 minutes Friday in the Matadors’ 4-1 loss to the University of San Diego before leaving when his hamstring became too painful.

The Thousand Oaks High boys and Agoura girls are each ranked fourth in The Harrier magazine’s latest national polls.

Thousand Oaks, runner-up in last year’s state Division I championships to Hart, was 10th in The Harrier’s preseason poll.

Agoura, three-time defending state Division I girls’ champion, was ranked fifth.

Hart, three-time defending state champion, has slipped from 17th to 20th.
