PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Robert Young May Miss One Game

Share

Ram defensive end Robert Young, the team’s leader with seven sacks, will probably miss the Thursday night game with Atlanta on Oct. 14, but is expected to return the next week against Detroit. Coach Chuck Knox said a medical examination of Young’s right knee Monday revealed no ligament tear.

“I had an MRI done Sunday night because I wouldn’t have been able to sleep not knowing if there was anything seriously wrong,” Young said. “They said it’s just a strain. I’ll probably have to wear a brace when I first go back, but they said it will be fine in a few weeks.”

Gerald Robinson, who started at left defensive end a year ago, replaced Young in Sunday’s game with the Saints.

The Rams have a bye this week and will take the next three days off before returning Friday for a day of practice. They will take Saturday off, and then return Sunday to begin daily preparations for the Falcons. The Rams, who are searching for a way to bolster their special teams, are expected to give tryouts this week to several free-agent players.

Knox said the Rams will have outside linebacker Henry Rolling available for duty when they play the Falcons. Rolling suffered a fractured thumb in the season opener against the Packers, and has not played since. . . . Tight end Pat Carter, who has been sidelined because of a foot injury, is now expected to return for Detroit. When Carter returns, Knox said, the team will have to make a decision at the tight end position. “We can’t carry four tight ends,” he said. The NFL trading deadline is Oct. 19. . . . Rookie tight end Troy Drayton has caught one pass for eight yards in the past two games. Tight end Jim Price, who missed training camp because of a salary dispute, was designated as one of the Rams’ inactive players for the game with the Saints. . . . Wide receiver Sean LaChapelle, who has yet to catch a pass in his first year with the team, was also designated as an inactive player against the Saints.
