The NFL said Wednesday two mistakes occurred with the clock in the final minute of Sunday’s 24-20 victory by the Raiders over the New York Jets.
After a review by NFL director of officiating Jerry Seeman, it was determined the clock operator, who is employed by the NFL, erroneously failed to start the game clock when the ball was snapped with 32 seconds remaining. After seven seconds were put on the clock, it should have been started by the referee’s signal before the ball was snapped on the Raiders’ final play, Nick Bell’s touchdown. When the referee failed to signal, the clock did not start until the snap.
