Ryan Bittle of Crescenta Valley entered the week with 68 goals in 17 matches this season, numbers that have helped put the Falcons’ water polo team in first place in the Pacific League.

Bittle scored five goals during Crescenta Valley’s 17-4 road victory against Pasadena last week that improved the Falcons’ record to 3-0 in league.

Hoover freshman David Lopez finished sixth overall at the Santa Clarita Invitational last week at College of the Canyons.

Lopez was clocked in 16 minutes 26 seconds over the three-mile course.

The Hoover girls’ volleyball team entered the week 1-4 in the Pacific League after sweeping rival Glendale for its first victory.

Meredith Butler had seven kills and five aces to lead Hoover.

COMMUNITY COLLEGES

Glendale College’s football team travels to Santa Barbara on Saturday for a Western State Conference Northern Division game.

Glendale (1-3-1, 0-3-1 in the WSC) is coming off a 28-28 tie against L.A. Southwest.

Pathon Rucker rushed for 258 yards and four touchdowns for the Vaqueros, who had three costly turnovers in the second half.

The Glendale men’s and women’s cross-country teams will participate in the second Western State Conference meet Friday at Ventura.

The Vaquero women finished third and the men fifth at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational last week in Walnut.

Auria Roberto was Glendale’s top women’s finisher in ninth place. Dio Almandarez was the Vaqueros’ top men’s finisher in 17th.

COLLEGES

Occidental College’s football team plays host to Menlo on Saturday in a nonconference game in Eagle Rock.

Occidental (4-1) is coming off a 51-21 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Pomona-Pitzer.

Occidental broke open a 21-7 game when Charles Jordan returned the second-half kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Chris Weissman had two interceptions for the Tigers, including one he returned 59 yards for a touchdown.

Occidental quarterback Davin Lundquist is third in the SCIAC in total offense with 173.2 yards a game and sixth in rushing with an average of 61.2. He also leads the conference in punting average at 41.3 yards a kick.

Occidental ranks last in the conference in passing with an average of 114.2 yards a game.

PREP ATHLETE OF WEEK

Tom Sheets, Flintridge Prep--Sheets gained 149 yards in 16 carries to lead the Rebels to a 29-6 victory over Webb in the Rebels’ Prep League opener.

COLLEGE ATHLETE OF WEEK

Chris Weissman, Occidental-- Weissman, a sophomore, intercepted two passes, including one he returned 59 yards for a touchdown as Occidental defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 51-21.
