Wild Quartz Hill Rally Overcomes Palmdale, 48-37

How quickly and permanently Rocque Sandoval’s touch disappeared in the second half Friday night.

After shredding the Quartz Hill High defense for 278 yards passing in the first half, the Palmdale quarterback threw four interceptions in the second half as the Rebels rallied for a 48-37 Golden League victory.

Sandoval completed 13 of 21 passes before intermission with no interceptions, but finished the game 23 of 48 for 392 yards.

The Rebels scored 27 consecutive points in the second half after trailing, 31-21, at halftime.

Michael Perry, who scored three touchdowns, rushed for a two-yard touchdown with 4 minutes 54 seconds left in the third quarter to bring the Rebels (7-0, 2-0 in league play) to within three points.

On Palmdale’s next play, Brian Stouch made the first of his two interceptions and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown to give Quartz Hill a 35-31 lead.

The Rebels put it away with two big plays--a 91-yard screen pass from Brad Norris to Perry, and a 60-yard flea-flicker pass from Damien Kendrid to Troy Searcy.

Norris completed 13 of 25 for 243 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Wide receiver Albert Lairson caught 10 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown for Palmdale (2-5, 1-1). Anthony Coleman added seven receptions for 177 yards.

Quartz Hill led, 14-7, before getting its second first down.

Searcy caught an 11-yard pass for one touchdown after a Palmdale fumble and returned a kickoff 96 yards for another before the first quarter was half over.

By the end of the first quarter, Sandoval had completed six of seven for 172 yards and two touchdowns.

The Falcons came back from the deficit with 21 consecutive points to lead, 28-14. None of the three touchdown drives took more than five plays.
