SOUTHWEST ROUNDUP : McElroy ‘Makes It Happen’ as Texas A&M; Wins, 38-10

Texas A&M;’s Leeland McElroy, a redshirt freshman, returned Rice’s first two kickoffs 93 and 88 yards for touchdowns, tying an NCAA record and sparking the 11th-ranked Aggies to a 38-10 victory Saturday at Houston.

“That’s the first time I’ve returned a kickoff all the way,” McElroy said. “I like to make things happen. Everything went just right. We had a middle wedge and they didn’t have a wedge buster.”

The Aggies also got two touchdown passes from Corey Pullig, who threw five yards to James McKeehan and 23 yards to Tony Harrison.

The Aggies (6-1 overall, 4-0 in the Southwest Conference), gained their 19th consecutive SWC victory and 13th in a row over Rice.

Rice (4-4, 1-3) had five fumbles against the Aggies, including one that was recovered by defensive end Sam Adams for a touchdown.

Texas Christian 38, Baylor 13--Andre Davis rushed for 103 yards and scored three touchdowns and Max Knake passed for two touchdowns in the SWC game at Waco.

The Horned Frogs improved to 3-4 and 1-2. Baylor dropped to 4-4 and 2-3.

Texas Christian shocked the Bears by taking a 17-0 halftime lead before a quiet homecoming crowd of 33,417.

Texas 37, Southern Methodist 10--Phil Brown ran for two touchdowns and Lovell Pinkney caught two scoring passes to lead Texas at San Antonio.

It was the first collegiate game played inside the Alamodome and it served as a home game for Dallas-based SMU.

Texas (2-3-1, 2-0) built a 27-3 halftime lead and held on for the victory. The Mustangs are 1-4-2 and 1-2-1.
