BELL CANYON : Controlled Burn Planned for 700 Acres
About 700 acres of hillside in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area will be on fire Thursday during a controlled burn aimed at reducing the risk of wildfires.
The fire, jointly planned by the Ventura County Fire Protection District and the National Park Service, will char land near Chesebro Road beginning at 7 a.m., fire officials said.
Although some smoke will be visible in the nearby canyon areas, fire officials said that the amount is not expected to be substantial and that current weather patterns will help loft the smoke.
