PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Slater Will Sit Out Sunday

Tackle Jackie Slater will sit out Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, but Coach Chuck Knox said that Slater’s torn pectoral muscle is not as serious as first thought.

Knox said Slater might be ready to play again after the Rams’ bye on Nov. 7.

Darryl Ashmore, who was counted on before the season began as Slater’s heir apparent, has been all but ignored by the coaching staff this season. Ashmore has been one of the team’s designated inactive players in each game, while eight-year tackle Robert Jenkins has backed up both Irv Eatman and Slater.

Wide receiver Flipper Anderson suffered bruised ribs Sunday against the Detroit Lions and Knox said his status remains day-to-day.

Knox said the team might get running back David Lang (knee) back this week, and he’s also counting on the return of defensive end Robert Young (knee).
