IN BRIEF : Celebrities Promote Project Literacy

“Celebration of the Word,” a month-long campaign featuring celebrity readings and book signings will be held by Project Literacy Los Angeles beginning Nov. 7 at 2:30 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 540 S. Commonwealth Ave.
Actors, authors and musicians scheduled to appear include Charlton Heston, Broadway actress Patricia Morison, Steven Weber (“Wings”), Lois Nettleton (“You Can’t Take It With You”), Marcia Rodd (“Trapper John, M.D.”) and tenor John Wiseman from Theater des Westerns of Berlin.
The PLLA campaign is sponsored by Permanent Charities of the Entertainment Industries, First Church, University Christian Church, Los Angeles Reader, Barnes & Noble Inc., the Disney VoluntEARS, Northern University Club of L.A., KBIG Radio, Project Literacy U.S. and the Los Angeles Times.
Proceeds from tickets to the readings will support PLLA educational programs.
