SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Los Amigos scored three consecutive touchdowns in the third quarter to pull away from Bolsa Grande and post a 43-7 Garden Grove League victory at Bolsa Grande.

The Lobos (7-1, 4-1) improved their playoff chances behind quarterback Ape Tuato and running back Noah Tagatauli. Tuato twice took advantage of an overly aggressive Bolsa Grande defense for touchdown runs of 21 and 25 yards. The junior called identical bootleg runs and went untouched into the end zone.

“They were coming at him hard but didn’t have anyone to contain on the outside,” Los Amigos Coach Steve Bolton said.

After Bolsa Grande (3-5, 2-3) scored its only touchdown, a 36-yard pass from Brian Baughman to Love Jefferson to make it 14-7, Tagatauli broke free for a 74-yard touchdown, making it 22-7 at halftime.

However, Tagatauli aggravated an earlier knee injury and did not return to the game. Bolton said his status for next week’s game against Garden Grove was uncertain.

The Lobos extended the lead on Keuni Faamausili’s six-yard touchdown pass from Tuato. Less than two minutes later, Niu Satele picked up a Matador fumble and returned it 40 yards for another touchdown. Sauaga Leofa closed out the scoring with a 45-yard run with 2:16 left in the third quarter.
