Titan Guard Out for Season Because of a Cracked Bone

Chris Dade, a freshman guard on the Cal State Fullerton basketball team, is out for the season because of a cracked bone in his left wrist.

Dade, who had a similar wrist problem at San Diego El Camino High, will undergo surgery after the first semester ends in December, Titan Coach Brad Holland said Wednesday.

“The doctor thinks that playing is going to hurt what’s going on in there,” Holland said. “If it was the type of thing where if he played he didn’t hurt it more, he’d probably play. But the doctor thinks he could hurt it further.”

Dade, who averaged 16.5 points and shot 58% from the floor while leading El Camino to a 25-5 record last winter, figured to challenge for playing time among the Titans’ untested newcomers this season. No starters--and only two players--return from last year’s team that finished 15-12.

Dade, 6 feet 2, will get a medical redshirt year and begin his four years of eligibility next winter.

“I think he’s got a chance to be a very good college guard,” Holland said. “We were all interested to see just how much Chris could help us this year. There was an opportunity. We were hoping he would fight for time.”

Three other players have missed early practice time with an assortment of minor ailments. David Frigout, a 6-9 transfer from France, has been nursing a pulled hamstring; Todd Satalowich, a 6-7 veteran forward, has a sprained ankle, and Josh King, a 6-7 freshman from Carmichael Jesuit, has had the flu. All are expected to return at full strength today.
