PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Fault Is Not All Robinson’s

Share

For most of his rookie season, running back Greg Robinson has heard the criticism about him and the Raiders’ ground attack. Although he never publicly complained or defended his performance, it bothered him to be judged that way.

“When you talk about a running game, you can’t always put the blame on the running back,” said Robinson. “There are always 10 more people on the field. But, I guess they have to pick on somebody, so you might as well start with the running back.”

After gaining 70 yards in less than three quarters in the Raiders’ 16-14 victory over the Chicago Bears last week, Robinson might start getting the respect he desires. In his best game as a pro, he averaged 5.8 yards before leaving because of a hip injury.

“I’m not doing anything different now than I was at the beginning of the season,” said Robinson, who has gained 120 yards in his last 20 carries. “It’s just that I’m getting an opportunity to run, and the line is doing a better job.”

With 334 yards rushing, Robinson is second among AFC rookies. His Northeast Louisiana teammate, Roosevelt Potts of the Indianapolis Colts, is the leader with 427 yards.

Two days ago, Chief quarterback Joe Montana was definitely not going to play against the Raiders. On Thursday, however, Montana was upgraded to doubtful.
