OUTLOOK

Prospero has taken the Falcon program from pitiful to respectable in two seasons. They were league co-champions two seasons ago and finished second last season. Now it’s time to take the step from respectable to contenders on the section level. The Falcons fortunes took a sharp upturn when Mann transferred from Mater Dei this fall. He is considered one of the top sophomores in the state. Mann was good enough to play on a Monarch varsity team that had six players who earned Division I scholarships. He was the team’s backup point guard and averaged five points. Mann is an exceptional ballhandler and a good shooter. His best asset may be his defensive abilities. His presence will give Falcon opponents all kinds of problems. But Mann will not go it alone. The Falcons also picked up Smith, who transferred from Tustin. He and Robinson give the Falcons good size up front. Robinson, though, must stay out of foul trouble, which he didn’t always do a year ago. There is some home-grown talent as well. Fletcher is a solid defender and good outside shooter. Souk may be small, but he’s deadly from three-point range. The Falcons will likely pick up the pace this season.
