Capriati to Sit Out Australian Open
SYDNEY, Australia —
Jennifer Capriati, sidelined because of a chipped bone in her elbow, will not play in the Australian Open and two warm-up events.
Rod Read, the director of the New South Wales Open, said Monday that he was informed by the Women’s Tennis Assn. that Capriati would sit out the Jan. 10-16 tournament.
The Australian Open begins Jan. 17.
Capriati was also scheduled to join John McEnroe in the Hopman Cup team event starting Dec. 31 in Perth.
