COMMUNITY COLLEGE NOTES : Bowman, Lynn Earn Top Honors

Curt Bowman and Kasey Lynn of Golden West head a list of community college water polo players who earned All-Southern California and first-team All-American honors.

Jeremy Yorba of Rancho Santiago and Shad Wicker of Orange Coast also earned first-team honors. Trevor Rodin of Saddleback, Ryan Mulholland of Orange Coast, James Marland of Golden West, Jason Bird of Fullerton, and Mike Gonzales of Rancho Santiago earned second-team All-Southern California honors.

Gonzales, Rodin and Yorba were also named first-team All-Orange Empire Conference.

Other county All-Orange Empire Conference players:

First team: Cypress--Marc Havran, Max Miyahara, Mustafa Hassan; Orange Coast--Dan Mathot; Rancho Santiago--Chad Gniffke. Second team: Cypress--Robbie Walshe, Pete Iniquez; Orange Coast--Sean Murphy, Michael Kerr, Nick Wagner; Rancho Santiago--Josh Routon, Brad Bracha, Tom Cerasuolo; Saddleback--Greg Reddish, Steve Hinton.

Rancho Santiago’s Brandon Hoalton, who shared the 1993 State pitcher of the year award, is among three baseball players who have made oral commitments to four-year colleges for next fall.

Hoalton has agreed to attend Long Beach State. Teammate Darren Troilo, a catcher, is going to Arizona State.

Hoalton was 12-0 and helped Rancho Santiago to its first State title. He had a 2.59 earned-run average and 76 strikeouts in 97 1/3 innings. Troilo hit .331 with five home runs and drove in 43 runs.

Jake Smith, who played first and third base and in the outfield for Golden West, will attend St. Mary’s. He hit .269 last season.
