Troy Aikman, who sat out last Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Cardinals because of a pulled hamstring, threw a few passes in practice, but remains questionable for the Dallas Cowboys’ game at Atlanta on Sunday.

“He’ll take a few snaps in practice (today),” Coach Jimmy Johnson said. “He’ll be questionable up to game time on Sunday.

“He’s not moving around a lot and that’s when you run into problems. Still, he’s further along than what I would have expected.”

Steve DeBerg, 39, the oldest quarterback in the NFL, will start for the Miami Dolphins Sunday against the New England Patriots. DeBerg, signed as a free agent last week, practiced with the first team Wednesday. Emergency replacement Doug Pedersen, who played in last Sunday’s 19-14 victory over Philadelphia, is listed No. 2 on the depth chart. . . . Although he has not been practicing, wide receiver Andre Reed of the Buffalo Bills says a broken bone in his wrist won’t keep him out of Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Linebacker Pat Swilling of the Detroit Lions reported to practice after sitting out the team’s last two practices. Swilling, who was fined an undisclosed amount, said he had some personal family business to take care of.

The Kansas City Chiefs declared that Marcus Allen is now their starting running back, even though Harvey Williams, who was knocked unconscious in a game at Miami three weeks ago, says he is fine and ready to play. Joe Montana, still recovering from a pulled hamstring, did not practice and probably will sit out a third consecutive game when the Chiefs play Chicago on Sunday, Coach Marty Schottenheimer said.

In other developments, the Chiefs released wide receiver Hassan Jones, put kick returner Ron Dickerson on injured reserve after he had toe surgery, and elevated rookie wide receiver/kick returner Danan Hughes from the practice squad. . . . Defensive lineman Jeff Alm of the Houston Oilers, who sat out the first five games of the season because of a contract dispute, will be sidelined four weeks because of a broken right leg.
