PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Now Rubley Feels Better Prepared

Share

T.J. Rubley said he wasn’t ready to be a starting NFL quarterback when Ram Coach Chuck Knox named him the starter for their Oct. 31 game at San Francisco, which the 49ers won, 40-17.

So, is Rubley ready now that Knox has made him the starter for Sunday’s game against the 49ers?

“At that time I had gone through one week of practice (as a backup) and one as the starter,” Rubley said. “I’ve had a lot more preparation time, and I feel a lot more comfortable. I’ve played with the No. 1 offense a lot more, so I know what to expect.

“Look at the pass (38 yards) to Pat Carter last week. I had something similar to that at San Francisco and I threw it out the back of the end zone.”

The Rams announced Wednesday that cornerback Todd Lyght, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Monday, has been put on the injured reserve list, not cornerback Robert Bailey, whom they said they put on the list Tuesday. . . . The Rams signed defensive lineman Jeff Esters and assigned him to the practice squad. Esters, a rookie out of Pittsburgh, was cut by the New York Jets in training camp. . . . The Rams announced that 62,900 tickets have been sold for Sunday’s game, 4,634 shy of a sellout needed to lift the local television blackout by 1 p.m. today.
