SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS : Orange, Pacific Coast Send Six to Semifinals

The Orange and Pacific Coast leagues each had three teams reach the semifinals of the Southern Section football playoffs.

The Orange League’s Savanna, Valencia and Western reached the semifinals in Division VI. Costa Mesa, Laguna Hills and Trabuco Hills all reached the semifinals in Division VIII.

Valencia (11-1), the top-seeded team, seeks its third consecutive title. The Tigers, who have won 11 consecutive games, play Savanna (10-2) Saturday at Glover Stadium. Valencia defeated Savanna, 48-14, in league play this season.

Western (6-3-1) plays Whittier on Friday at Whittier College.

Trabuco Hills (9-3) plays Laguna Hills (9-3) Saturday at Mission Viejo High School. The Mustangs defeated the Hawks, 33-6, in league play.

Costa Mesa (8-2-2), which won its first league title since 1978 and its first playoff game since 1979, plays Riverside La Sierra at Newport Harbor High School on Friday.

Division I--Mater Dei at Antelope Valley, Friday.

Division II--Compton Dominguez at Huntington Beach, Friday. Los Alamitos vs. Fountain Valley, site TBA, Saturday.

Division IV--Irvine at Glendora, Saturday.

Division VII--Rancho Alamitos vs. Arroyo Grande, Bolsa Grande HS, Friday. Kennedy vs. Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, Western HS, Saturday.

Division X--Brethren Christian vs. Yucca Valley, Artesia HS, Saturday.
