OUTLOOK

Acheson takes over the helm from John Caldie, who guided Heritage Christian to a first-place finish in the Express League a year ago. Acheson will count on his two sons to heat up the Patriots’ fast-break offense that likes to run, run, run. It is not uncommon for the Patriots to break the 100-point mark as they run a style of offense that is comparable to Loyola Marymount University during the Paul Westhead era. Steve Acheson led the team in scoring last season, averaging 16.4 points, but that was playing at the shooting guard spot. With the graduation of Alan Dixon and his 15 assists a game, he now finds himself responsible for bringing the ball up court as well as carrying the scoring load. His brother, David, moves into a starting role at forward and should be right behind Steve in scoring. The Patriots’ weakness is a lack of size, but the way they like to run, conditioning will be more of a factor than height. Acheson said he expects Calvary Chapel to make a run at dethroning his team.
