Led by Sunset MVP Tony Gonzalez, the Oilers became the first team in 15 years to finish the Sunset League unbeaten. With balance provided by Matt Ambrose, Bryan Chang, Tommy Walden, Chris Jones and Jon Wimbish, Huntington Beach reached the Division I-A title game, where it lost to Mater Dei, 63-41. . . . Led by Jimmy Harris, who averaged 18 points and 10 assists, Ocean View finished second in the Sunset but lost to Riverside Poly in the first round of the Division II-AA playoffs. . . . Edison reached the Division II-AA quarterfinals before losing to Riverside J.W. North, and Servite lost in the first round to Division III-AA champion Inglewood Morningside.
