OUTLOOK

The season ended on a sour note for the Barons when they lost a fourth-place playoff game to Servite, costing them a spot in the Division I-AA playoffs. It got worse when their gym was vandalized, and the Barons won’t return to it until repairs are complete Jan. 1. But three starters return, and if Fountain Valley can play solid defense and produce transition scoring, it could challenge for the title. Domingo averaged 10 points and eight rebounds as a sophomore and is the Barons’ top post player, and can also go outside and make 15- to 16-foot jumpers, Billingsley said. Leimbach, an all-league tight end, will join the team when the football team finishes its Division II playoff run. Leimbach averaged 14 points last season but missed most of the second half of league season because of bronchitis. Hoppie returns to play the point after averaging five assists last season. Best and Strange are two players from the freshman team who could make an impact. Billingsley said Huntington Beach should be the favorite this season. “No one has a super, super player besides Tony Gonzalez at Huntington,” Billingsley said. “Last year, Huntington was so much better than everyone else, but this season, if we stay healthy, we can play with anyone.”
