BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Lin’s Seven 3-Pointers Lead Way for Griffins

Tim Lin scored 30 points, 21 on three-pointers, and Ali Ton had 15 assists and five steals as Los Alamitos, ranked second in Orange County, routed Savanna, 86-46, in a semifinal of the Sunbird boys’ basketball tournament at Savanna High.

The Griffins (3-0) will meet Katella for the tournament championship tonight at 8 p.m. at Savanna.

Jeremy Vandervoet scored 13 points, and Brady Doyle had eight points and seven rebounds for Los Alamitos, which led, 46-22, at halftime.

Todd Wilson led Savanna (2-1) with 10 points.

Katella 60, Servite 59--Nick Roditis scored 21 points to lead Katella at Western High.

Servite’s David Downs, who scored 26 points, pushed a three-pointer off the rim at the buzzer as Katella hung on.

Cypress 55, Chino 41--Derek Mitchell had 18 points and four assists, and Brett Boulton added 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead Cypress (3-1) in a consolation game.

Sunny Hills 66, Kennedy 62 (2 OT)--Sunny Hills (1-2) let a 13-point halftime lead disappear before it came back to defeat Kennedy (0-3). Sunny Hills junior Ben Nicolas had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sean Gravelt led Kennedy with 23 points, including five three-pointers.

In the Daily Pilot tournament:

Mater Dei 99, Corona del Mar 45--Clay McKnight scored 35 points, and Miles Simon added 16 points to lead Mater Dei into the finals to meet Newport Harbor. Corona del Mar was led by Jeff Schroeder with 13 points.

Newport Harbor 45, El Toro 41--Paul Tayyar scored 14 points and Ramy Shoukry added 11 for Newport Harbor (3-0). Jeff Bone led El Toro (2-1) with 10 points.

Irvine 44, Marina 40--Greg Foster scored 19 points including three three-pointers to lead Irvine to the victory in the consolation round. Eric Endsley and Andy Nieto each scored 14 points for Marina.

Calvary Chapel 62, Brea-Olinda 52--Freshman point guard Kevin Falconer had 10 points, including six of seven from the free-throw line, in the fourth quarter to lead Calvary Chapel (1-2) in a consolation game. Brea-Olinda is 0-3.

Troy 65, Torrance 48--Greg Abbott scored 24 points to lead Troy (2-1) in consolation play.

Estancia 47, Huntington Beach 45--Clay Frenz scored 21 points to lead Estancia (1-2) in the consolation game.

In the Orange Lutheran tournament:

Pacifica 76, Magnolia 61--Chris Vlasic scored 20 points and Ramon Alliman added 18, 13 in the fourth quarter, as Pacifica upset Magnolia, the sixth-ranked team in Orange County, in a semifinal game. Pacifica will play Orange in the tournament final tonight at 8:15.

Orange 101, Orange Lutheran 46--Nestor Cabalo scored 16 points, David Neal added 14 and Jason Krauss finished with 13 to lead Orange (2-0) in the other semifinal.

Ryan Taube and Jim Brown each scored seven points to lead host Orange Lutheran.

Laguna Beach 46, Buena Park 37--Gordon Orsborn scored 16 points for Laguna Beach (1-1) in a consolation game.

Mission Viejo 63, Los Angeles Cathedral 62--Jerry Reid scored 16 points and Ty Kalklosch added 15 to lead Mission Viejo (1-1) in a consolation game. Eddie Naeves scored a game-high 29 to lead Cathedral (0-2).

In the Beaumont tournament:

Valencia 80, Hemet 43--Max Zamora scored 19 points, Joe Reynoza scored 18 and Jason Miele added 14 to lead Valencia (3-0) in the semifinals. The Tigers will face Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World in today’s finals.

Twentynine Palms 80, Capistrano Valley Christian 66--Mike Mattson scored 26 points and Brandon Floerke added 20 to lead Capistrano Valley Christian (1-2) in a consolation game.

In the Cerritos Gahr tournament:

Esperanza 61, Gardena 34--Guard Mike Thimgan had 12 points and eight rebounds for Esperanza (2-1) in a consolation game.

In the Palm Desert tournament:

San Clemente 76, Palm Desert 62--Luke Mannix scored 25 points and Phinney Gardner added 24 and 14 rebounds for San Clemente, which advanced to play Palm Springs in tonight’s finals.

In nonleague play:

Claremont 48, St. Michael’s 44--Gavin Watson scored 18 points and had 29 rebounds, and Steve Kimble had 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for host Claremont (1-0).
