PREP ROUNDUP : Kimoto’s Shot Gets Oilers Past San Clemente

Renee Kimoto scored with 28 seconds left to lift Huntington Beach to a 53-52 victory over San Clemente in the championship semifinals of the Woodbridge girls’ basketball tournament.

Kimoto finished with 11 points and Juliana Castro had 12 points and nine rebounds for Huntington Beach (2-0), which plays Woodbridge for the tournament title at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

San Clemente is 3-1.

In the other tournament semifinal:

Woodbridge 46, Fountain Valley 41--Melanie Pearson led the Warriors with 16 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and four steals. Angel Burgess had 14 rebounds and eight points. Woodbridge is 2-0.

In the Brea-Olinda girls’ basketball tournament:

Mission Viejo 62, Esperanza 54--Kortney Okura scored a game-high 23 points for the Diablos. Treva Whitaker added 17. Monique Toney led Esperanza with 13 points. Mission Viejo (3-0) plays Ocean View on Thursday.

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Cypress 74, Pacifica 45--Jessica Eggleston scored 30 points and Susan Flaming had 15 assists and eight points for Cypress (6-1).

Saddleback 34, Santa Ana Valley 30--Nicole Wiora scored eight of her game-high 13 points in the fourth quarter and Aidee Pacheco scored six of her 11 points in the final quarter for Saddleback.

In the Costa Mesa Kiwanis boys’ basketball tournament:

Anaheim 58, Santiago 39--Frank Castillo led all scorers with 15 points for Anaheim (2-0). Jonas Maceda had 11 points and seven assists also for Anaheim.

Costa Mesa 82, Chino Boys’ Republic 44--Lance Merrifield scored 23 points and added nine rebounds for host Costa Mesa (1-1). Ryan Steck had 17 points and eight assists and Gilbert Lopez had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Costa Mesa.

In the Coca-Cola Converse Classic at Trabuco Hills:

Capistrano Valley 86, Pomona 58--Dinari Bates scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Capistrano Valley (1-) won its first-round game at home. Todd Thornton added 13 points and 14 assists for the Cougars.

El Modena 77, South Torrance 72 (OT)--Ryan Vilmer scored 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead El Modena to a consolation round victory.

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

Western 74, Schurr 63--Niel Hensley, a senior guard, scored 33 points for visiting Western. He madethree three-pointers and 10 of 11 free throws. Western (3-2) made 26 of 31 free throws. In Sunset League field hockey:

Santiago 3, Santa Ana 0--Alicia Alvarado scored two goals for host Santiago (1-1-1, 1-0).
