COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Airey, Wilson Each Score 31, Lead Irvine Valley

Thomas Airey and Rashad Wilson each scored 31 points as Irvine Valley defeated Riverside, 108-98, in the semifinals of the Riverside men’s basketball tournament Friday at Riverside.

Airey made 10 of 17 three-point shots--he also made his only free-throw attempt--and Wilson made six of eight three-pointers for the Lasers, who will play Fullerton in the final at 7 tonight.

In other Riverside tournament games:

Fullerton 104, Pasadena 71--Tyrone Merriweather had a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds and Tamar Ross added 21 points, including three three-pointers, to lead Fullerton (11-2) in a semifinal.

Cypress 83, Golden West 70--Adam Baker hit seven of 10 shots for a game-high 18 points, and Matt Kenny added 17 points, including four three-pointers, to lead Cypress (6-6) in the consolation round.

In the Hancock women’s tournament:

Golden West 96, Vandenberg 52--Julie Murdent had 19 points and 15 rebounds and Kristin Brun had 16 points and seven assists for Golden West (10-2), which will play Victor Valley today in the second round.

In the Palomar women’s tournament:

Rancho Santiago 56, Mt. San Jacinto 47--Tonja Tilli scored 16 points and Candace Acosta added 11 to lead Rancho Santiago (2-6) to a first-round victory.

In the Southwestern women’s tournament:

Saddleback 83, Antelope Valley 60--Amy Feniello scored a game-high 19 points, Carrie Burt added 17 points and nine assists and Bonnie Trejo had 15 points and nine rebounds to lead Saddleback (5-2) in the opening round.

In the L.A. Valley women’s tournament:

Cypress 74, Los Angeles Valley 43--Sara Works scored 18 points and Yolanda Hearvey scored 17 for Cypress in a semifinal. Cypress will face Ventura in today’s final.
