PREP ROUNDUP : No. 2 Capistrano Valley Defeats Irvine in Girls’ Soccer

Lindsay Light scored in the first half to give Capistrano Valley, ranked No. 2 in Orange County, a 1-0 victory over No. 9 Irvine in a nonleague girls’ soccer game Thursday at Irvine.

Light’s goal came off an assist by Liz Delgado. Christina Jordan had eight saves for Capistrano Valley (4-1-1).

In the Irvine boys’ soccer tournament:

Woodbridge 4, Irvine 0--Ryan Ruggerello scored twice for Woodbridge in the championship game. Doug Childers and Makoto Sawada had the other goals for the Warriors (5-1-1). The game was postponed twice because of rain.

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

El Modena 5, Tustin 0--Kaylee Whitfield had two goals and an assist as host El Modena (5-1) took a 5-0 lead in the first half. Jennifer Porter had a goal and an assist and Erin Warren had two assists for the Vanguards.

Loara 7, Magnolia 0--Freshman forward Kellie Clark scored three goals and senior goalkeeper Christina Mantas made five saves for Loara (4-2-2).

Rosary 3, Brea-Olinda 1--Lisette Baron, Amy Shanks and Liz Schilling scored for Rosary (4-3).

Sunny Hills 3, Foothill 0--Jenny Cunningham scored two goals and Rhonda Partida one for visiting Sunny Hills (5-2). Danielle Broschak had six saves in her fourth shutout of the season.

Mater Dei 1, Corona del Mar 0--Trisha Steiner scored off a crossing pass from Teresa Buechler with 15 minutes to play for visiting Mater Dei (2-3).

Katella 2, Anaheim 0--Lisa Dale scored both goals for host Katella (5-1-2).

Estancia 1, Newport Harbor 0--Dori Marsh scored eight minutes into the second half for visiting Estancia (5-2-1).

Valencia 2, La Habra 1--Junior midfielder Amy Ensman scored the winning goal with 10 minutes remaining. Valencia is 2-2-2.

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

Anaheim 1, Bellflower St. John Bosco 0--Juan Lopez scored 20 minutes into the second half for visiting Anaheim (7-2-1).

Cypress 2, Hacienda Heights Los Altos 0--Greg Cleave and Sergio Zavala scored goals for visiting Cypress (7-2).

Tustin 4, El Modena 2--Caige Moore scored twice to lead host Tustin (2-1). Justin Boyce had both goals for El Modena (2-1).

Santa Margarita 1, Capistrano Valley 1--Seth George scored for Santa Margarita. Dustin Layne tied the score for Capistrano Valley midway through the first half.

Savanna 2, Norwalk Glenn 0--Daniel Moise scored a goal in each half for host Savanna (3-3-2).

Santiago 1, Newport Harbor 1--Alicia Alvarado scored for host Santiago (3-1-2, 2-0-1); Mara Colaizzi scored for Newport Harbor (3-1-4, 1-1-2).

In Sunset League wrestling:

Santa Ana 37, Edison 18--Miguel Valencia and Ron Hernandez moved up in weight classes to post victories for host Santa Ana (10-0, 2-0). Valencia won at 130 pounds; Hernandez defeated Mark Ponegalak, 11-6, at 135.
