Cat Sterilization
There is a tremendous cat overpopulation problem in California. More than 400,000 cats were killed in California shelters last year.
A bill, AB 302, will be heard in the Assembly’s Local Government Committee in January. This bill requires all outside cats over the age of 4 months to be spayed or neutered. Failure to comply results in an infraction, with citation fees waived if the person sterilizes the cat within 30 days after receiving the citation.
If passed, this bill would save many feline lives. It will also save taxpayers’ money. Animal control costs, which taxes pay for, will be reduced in years to come.
