COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Roche’s Free Throws Lift OCC Past Grossmont

Derek Roche made two free throws with four seconds remaining to lift Orange Coast to a 72-71 victory over Grossmont Monday in the first round of the San Diego Mesa tournament.

Damion Morbley scored 22 points, had seven assists and 12 rebounds for Orange Coast (9-4).

In the College of the Canyons tournament:

Cypress 71, West Los Angeles 63--Matt Kenney scored 21 points, including five of six three-pointers, for Cypress (8-9).

In the Fullerton women’s tournament:

Fullerton 67, Phoenix (Ariz.) 48--Lisa Ruppe scored 10 points and Valory Widdison added 11 rebounds for Fullerton.

Golden West 88, Pierce 39--Deana Itow scored a game-high 20 points and Katie Miner added 15 points and 15 rebounds to lead Golden West (16-2), which plays El Camino at 5 p.m. today in one quarterfinal.

Cypress 90, Ohlone 45--Sara Works scored 23 points and Yolanda Hearvey had nine points and 15 rebounds for Cypress (11-3), which plays LA Valley at 8:45 tonight.
