The Region : Metrolink Ridership Figures

Two of Southern California’s most popular commuter train stops are in the San Gabriel Valley, Metrolink officials say, citing year-end figures on ridership.

The Riverside line that stops in the City of Industry en route to and from downtown Los Angeles recorded the highest average number of boardings each week, 2,200.

And with 1,500 weekly boardings, the Covina station on the San Bernardino line tied for second place with Metrolink’s Simi Valley stop.

Each week, Metrolink carries about 33,000 passengers, or the equivalent of two freeway lanes of rush-hour traffic, said Larry Walker, head of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board. “And we’re cleaning the air too. Each week we eliminate 2 1/2 tons of air pollutants because motorists are leaving the driving to Metrolink.”
