A panel of government officials will be available to answer questions about maintenance and security for the proposed 15-acre lake in the Hansen Dam Recreation Area at a community meeting Monday evening sponsored by the Lake View Terrace Improvement Assn.

Officials from the city Recreation and Parks Department and the Army Corps of Engineers are expected to attend, in addition to Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon and representatives of Los Angeles City Councilman Joel Wachs, Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sylmar) and Congressman Howard Berman (D-Panorama City).

Groundbreaking for the new lake in the west end of the recreation area is expected in June, said Rose Castaneda, administrative assistant for Berman. The federal government has approved more than $5 million to improve the Hansen Dam property, which is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers.

“We want something really nice and we want them to tell us how they will do it,” said Eileen Barry, board member of the Lake View Terrace Improvement Assn.

The community meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Lake View Terrace Recreation Center at 11075 Foothill Blvd., Lake View Terrace.
