NBA ROUNDUP : Curry Leads Hornet Comeback

Dell Curry scored 30 points and made six of eight three-point shots as the Charlotte Hornets erased a 20-point deficit and held on in a wild finish to beat the New York Knicks, 102-99, Saturday night at Charlotte.

Four other Hornets joined Curry in double figures, including Mike Gminski with a season-high 14 points.

Muggsy Bogues sealed the victory with a driving layup past New York’s Charles Oakley and Patrick Ewing with 11 seconds to play.

The game marked the Knick debut of Derek Harper, acquired Thursday in a trade with Dallas. He did not score in 17 minutes.

Indiana 101, Detroit 92--Byron Scott, starting in place of the ill Reggie Miller, scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half at Auburn Hills, Mich., sending the Pistons to their ninth consecutive defeat.

Scott’s three-pointer and 15-footer at the start of the fourth quarter helped the Pacers build an 85-78 advantage with 9:31 left.

Minnesota 108, Boston 90--Chuck Person came off the bench to score 20 points to lead the Timberwolves at Minneapolis.

Micheal Williams added 15 points and 11 assists and Luc Longley 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves.

Orlando 112, Washington 101--It was a typical game for Shaquille O’Neal, who had 29 points, 19 rebounds and more complaints about the officiating as the Magic won at Orlando.

O’Neal was whistled for two flagrant fouls while trying to block shots in the fourth quarter. He also got slapped with a technical foul for encouraging the Orlando Arena crowd of 15,291 to voice its disapproval after the first call.

Chicago 100, Dallas 81--Scottie Pippen scored 20 points and the Bulls rolled at Chicago after taking a 21-6 lead.

The loss was the sixth consecutively for the Mavericks, whose record dipped to 2-29.

Houston 100, Philadelphia 93--Hakeem Olajuwon had 23 points and Mario Elie scored 19 points in relief of Vernon Maxwell, leading the Rockets at Houston.

Atlanta 102, Cleveland 89--Dominique Wilkins scored 30 points, including 15 in a stretch that erased a 10-point deficit at Atlanta, as the Hawks won their fifth in a row.

The victory came in Mike Fratello’s first game at The Omni as a coach since directing the Hawks for seven seasons. He resigned after the 1989-90 season.

Seattle 108, Utah 87--The SuperSonics got 16 points each from Sam Perkins, Gary Payton and Kendall Gill, improving their NBA-best record to 26-3 at Seattle.

Seattle won its sixth in a row for the second time this season and improved its home record to 15-1.

Denver 104, Sacramento 98--LaPhonso Ellis scored seven of his 22 points in the last three minutes, lifting the Nuggets at Denver.

New Jersey 90, Milwaukee 87--Kevin Edwards had 19 points and Kenny Anderson 18 to lead the Nets at Milwaukee.
