SIMI VALLEY : System Snag Delays New Library Hours

Share

An expected increase in hours at the Simi Valley Library has been delayed because of a lag in the delivery of an automated $70,000 check-out system.

“We were hoping to have the system this month,” said Dixie Adeniran, director of the county’s library agency.

Adeniran said the system should be installed by mid-March.

The machines, which Adeniran said resemble bank cash machines, will allow patrons to check out material without a library employee.

Once the automated system is in place, officials hope to keep the branch open an additional 11 hours a week.

The county-run library’s weekly hours were slashed from 54 to 32 when the library agency had its state funding cut by 40% last year.

The Simi Valley Library, one of 15 run by the countywide agency, will be the first to install the automated system. A similar system is planned for the Camarillo Library.
