Ollie Takes Laurels in North Hollywood Romp

Damon Ollie scored 31 points and grabbed 27 rebounds for North Hollywood High as the Huskies routed Canoga Park, 101-53, in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game Friday night at Canoga Park.

Ollie, with eight blocked shots, narrowly missed a triple double.

North Hollywood held a 45-24 halftime lead and ran off 32 points in the third quarter to put the game away. Fantasia Johnson had 21 points and 11 assists for the Huskies, who improved to 9-5 and 3-0 in league play.

Jody Edington scored 15 points for Canoga Park.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Kennedy 57, Granada Hills 51--The visiting Golden Cougars trailed by 11 at halftime but played tough defense in the second half and limited the Highlanders to 15 points after intermission in the Northwest Valley game. Jelani Janisse had 25 points, 11 rebounds, two blocked shots and five of Kennedy’s 11 steals. Steve Fisher led Granada Hills with 24 points.

Taft 63, El Camino Real 56--Lamont Magee had 19 points and Miles Blake added 14 and eight rebounds coming off the bench to lead the host Toreadors (11-6, 2-1) in the Northwest Valley Conference game. Magee hit five three-point baskets while Blake had four.

The Conquistadores’ Charles Adams led all scorers with 25 points, 17 of which came in the first half. El Camino Real has yet to win a league game in three tries.

Poly 56, Van Nuys 26--Darrin Drew led all scorers with 17 points as the Parrots dominated defensively by holding the Wolves to two points in the first quarter and four in the third.

Marshall 61, Verdugo Hills 56--Mike Sessions scored 14 points for the host Dons (4-8, 2-4) and Chan Cornish added 13 points and 13 rebounds in the Northern Conference loss.

Bryan DeLos Reyes also turned in a 13-point effort for Verdugo Hills, and David Bryant chipped in with 10.

Littlerock 58, Quartz Hill 43--The Rebels were held scoreless in the third quarter of the Golden League game. John George led Littlerock (7-8, 3-4) with 15 points and Hassan Phillips added 11. Brad Deckstead led Quartz Hill with 13 points.

L.A. Baptist 79, Marshall Fundamental 53--Landon LaPack scored 33 points, playing half the game, to lead the host Knights (12-3, 2-0) to an easy Alpha League victory. Craig Lord scored 15 points and Jeff Baumsteiger handed out 10 assists for L.A. Baptist.

Nordhoff 63, Calabasas 42--Ranger guard Mark Sebek scored 31 points, including 12 in the first quarter of the Frontier League game. He sank five three-pointers as Nordhoff improved to 5-10, 2-1. Freshman Ryan Coleman led the Coyotes with 15 points.

Providence 38, Oakwood 36--Providence held a 10-point lead with less than three minutes left in the game and held on in the Liberty League game. Ricky Flores led Providence (5-7, 2-2) with 15 points.

Canyon 79, Burbank 49--Senior forward Charles Woodard scored 20 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for the host Cowboys (15-5, 5-1) in a Foothill League game. Woodard hit three three-point shots. Greg Minor scored 19 points, including 10 during the first quarter in which Canyon took a 22-6 lead.

Crescenta Valley 57, Hoover 43--Brock Jacobsen scored 25 points and Richard O’Neill added 13 to lead the visiting Falcons (11-6, 1-2) in the Pacific League game. Hoover missed 13 of 18 free throws down the stretch, four at the front end of one-and-one opportunities.

Chaminade 52, Crespi 44--Mike Yang scored 13 points and Casey Cote grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the host Eagles (5-10, 1-5) to their first Mission League victory, snapping Crespi’s four-game winning streak. Junior forward Gianandrea Marcaccini had scored 20 points or more during all the games in Crespi’s streak, but the Eagles held him to 15. The Celts are 7-9, 3-3.

Bishop Montgomery 65, Notre Dame 56--Rich Igou’s 26-point effort wasn’t enough for visiting Notre Dame in the Mission League matchup.

Kareem Mutrie had 27 points and seven assists for Bishop Montgomery.

Agoura 61, Royal 54--Brian Laibow had 10 points and a team-high four rebounds, six assists and four steals and Ben Richardson had a game-high 14 points for Agoura (10-5, 3-1) in the Marmonte League game.

Santa Clara 45, Santa Paula 38--Damian Cantrell had 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead the visiting Saints (10-7, 2-0) in a Frontier League contest. Damien Smith made six steals to accompany his four points.

Manuel Escamilla scored 17 points and Chris Canon added 12 for the Cardinals.

Oak Park 82, Fillmore 64--Ryan Garth scored 22 points to lead the host Eagles (15-2, 2-0) to a Tri-Valley League victory.

Campbell Hall 69, Faith Baptist 51--The visiting Vikings led the Delphic League game, 58-21, after three quarters, but then Faith Baptist outscored a team of substitutes, 30-11, in the final period. Simeon Woodall led Campbell Hall (14-5, 2-1) with 20 points. Alex Lopez scored 16.

St. Francis 66, St. Paul 63 (OT)--Chris Ott scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the visiting Golden Knights in the Del Rey League game. St. Francis (14-4, 5-0) has won 10 in a row. Dan Bir added 16 points for St. Francis.

Harvard-Westlake 76, St. Bernard 65--Scott Garson scored 29 points and Jarron Collins added 12 with 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Wolverines (15-1, 4-1) in the Mission League game.

GIRLS

El Camino Real 41, Taft 27--Tanika McThomas scored 11 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the host Conquistadores (7-4, 3-0) to the Northwest Valley Conference victory. Jessica Dinaberg grabbed 15 rebounds and Samantha Small had 11 for El Camino Real.

Kennedy 56, Chatsworth 38--Freshman point guard Tamaya Morris scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the host Golden Cougars (11-5, 3-0) in the Northwest Valley Conference game. Junior Tami Ross pulled down 21 rebounds for Kennedy.

North Hollywood 93, Sherman Oaks CES 21--Anna Celaya had 34 points and four steals for the host Huskies (8-5, 4-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

Darvena Merritt added 15 points for North Hollywood, which is averaging 76 points per game in league play.

Cleveland 54, Reseda 19--Teresa McGuire scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Cavaliers (3-7, 1-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Monroe 47, Grant 35--Senior center Dimara Haymond scored 19 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the visiting Vikings (9-7, 2-2) in the Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

Faith Baptist 60, Campbell Hall 56--Shawn Dennis had 21 points for the Contenders and Amanda Warren scored a career-high 17 in a losing effort for the Vikings.
