ROUNDUP : Canyons Gets Lesson From Moorpark, 86-73

Danny Alexander scored 25 points and Paul Foster had 23 and 12 rebounds to lead the Moorpark College men’s basketball team to an 86-73 victory over Canyons in a Western State Conference game Saturday night at Moorpark.

Jaime Jaquez added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Sean Martin had 12 points and 14 assists for Moorpark (18-5, 4-1 in WSC play).

Ryan Eason had 23 points and 14 rebounds for Canyons (6-14).

Cal Lutheran 101, Redlands 93--Damon Ridley scored 30 points at Redlands as the Kingsmen won their 13th game without a defeat. Cal Lutheran, 2-0 in SCIAC play, has scored more than 100 points in each of its league victories.

The Master’s 90, Christian Heritage 70--Leo Goravakas (15 points) and Emeka Okenwa (14) led seven Mustangs (17-3) in double figures in a nonconference game in Newhall.

Cuesta 71, Valley 70--Conlon Bryant hit a three-pointer with 14 seconds left to give the Cougars a 71-67 lead and seal a WSC victory in San Luis Obispo. Darius Moses had 16 points and 11 rebounds the Monarchs (8-12, 2-3).

Antelope Valley 96, Barstow 73--Orville Turner had 26 points and six assists, Gary Boyce scored 18 points and Marcus Cross added 16 points and nine rebounds for Antelope Valley (11-9, 3-2) in a Foothill Conference game.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Santa Barbara Invitational--Cal State Northridge defeated UCSB, 15-12, 16-14, to finish ninth in the tournament at Goleta.

Earlier, the Matadors lost to UCLA, 15-8, 10-15, 16-14, and to Pacific, 15-9, 15-13, in Pool II play.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Cal State Sacramento 84, Northridge 64--Kristy Ryan had 38 points and 19 rebounds for the Hornets (9-6) in a nonconference victory in Sacramento. Shannon Crouse scored 19 for CSUN (2-14).

Glendale 71, Santa Barbara 68--Keri Peterson’s layup tied the score with five seconds left in regulation and Cindy Thai’s two free throws with 45 seconds left in overtime clinched a WSC victory for the Vaqueros (8-8, 4-2).

Canyons 69, Moorpark 57--Jeanette Oriza had 16 points for the Raiders, who took their first WSC setback in the game at Moorpark.

Valley 65, Cuesta 54--Vonya Dangerfield scored 15 points to lead the Monarchs (8-14, 3-3) in a WSC game at Cuesta. Valley point guard Maggie Hause scored 11 points and had six steals.

Pierce 72, Oxnard 57--Angela Rich scored 24 points to lead the Brahmas (4-13, 2-3) to a WSC victory at Oxnard.
