PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Troy Wins to Take Control in Freeway League
It took two overtimes, but the Troy girls’ basketball team took sole possession of first place in the Freeway League Tuesday, defeating visiting Fullerton, 55-52.
Troy held a 48-46 lead with 10 seconds remaining in regulation, but Ashley Jones’ eight-foot jump shot tied the score with four seconds left, sending the game into overtime.
Rebecca How’s layup with one minute left gave the Warriors (12-5, 4-0 in league) a 55-50 lead in the second overtime.
Fullerton (10-7, 3-1) controlled the game with its full-court defense and induced 30 turnovers by Troy.
“They really came out smoking tonight,” Troy Coach Brad Sand said. “They just took us out of our game. I’m still trying to figure out how we won this game.
“We knew going into this game that it was going to be a tough one. Now we have to get back to work because they are going to get better by the next time we see them.”
Nadia Hoerner had a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead Fullerton, and Jennie Gadd finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for Troy.
